The Mountain Jackpot

One of my second cousins and I have made up newspaper names to use as the subject for our daily emails about what we are up to. Hers is Russell Road Dispatch. Mine varies because I haven't come up with something catchy that I love. For ideas I look at state lists of newspapers, and my current one is Drake Evening Tidings. I can't remember where I came across a newspaper called the 'Evening Tidings,' and maybe I dreamt it.

Looking today, I see that Woodland Park, Colorado's paper is

Anyhow, there are no casinos in Woodland Park, so the jackpot is the beautiful mountain scenery.

Here are some pictures from Rocky Mountain National Park, up in northern Colorado where I live.

My favorite is the 3rd photo. And Pennsylvania has lots and lots and lots of hills and valleys! My last houseguest got carsick from a drive around town, up and down the hills. He had no idea Pittsburgh was a hilly city. And vegetation? So much rain here it would be hard not to be green-covered. My b-in-law can't breathe when he visits here, it's so damp. And low altitude, I guess. He spent the last decade or two in Denver.

We had a college friend who did post-grad in Pittsburgh and his wedding was in Latrobe. I've always liked visiting there.

I like the shadows of the clouds on the bottom pic. Thanx.

There are golden aspen dotted in the distance, but they don't show up very well.

Your photos? High school newspapers often have unusual names. My high school's name was "High Life". With our team name of "Hot Dogs" (Frankfort), I would have thought they could have been more imaginative.

No not my pictures, these were submitted to the Estes Park Trail-Gazette.

I am surprised at all the color, knowing you had a dry summer. We have
hardly any.

It was the long, wet spring that made the difference - snow in May. Mr. YouKnow was upset that he hadn't stayed in Las Vegas until June. We'll see what he does next year.

Love the pix. You've got me thinking of newspaper names.

You'll probably come up with some cute ones.

We have a hill--a landfill--does that count for anything?????LOL

Reminds me of a conversation I heard once about Pennsylvania - one person kept saying it had beautiful woods and hilly landscapes, and the other one kept insisting it was landfills covered with vegetation.

That first one reminds me of the beautiful tree in your front yard.

You are lucky to have the ocean and canals where you live, and I have the mountains.

Great color!

It was a good year for color here. Because our altitude rises from 5,280 to 10,000 feet the color season lasts a long time.

The location with the water is called 'the Alluvial Fan.' Usually this kind of thing would take centuries to form, but this one was made in 4 hours as the result of an earthen dam breaking in the 1980s.
