Lost, and Found in the River

Just past our property the Big Thompson River takes a bend and there is a big eddy where river debris ends up. When the river is high a large amount of material gathers in that area including big logs, smaller sticks, general trash, and stuff.

The river is too high to wade across to that area, so Mr. Troutbend decided to hike over the hill just to see what's over there.

Here some of the loot he found over there:

There is a red and white cooler over there, but the lid is warped so it's not worth trying to salvage it.

He says there are a lot of flip-flops, some of them very nice, but none of them match. He brought one back that he thinks will fit him because he was needing a left foot one; it's like new.

A couple of years ago one of the club fishermen was bemoaning the fact that his box of fishing flies fell out of his pocket and floated away before he missed it. I think we found it today. Unfortunately it wasn't waterproof, and after two years underwater the hooks have rusted away from the fly parts, so it looks like a box of dead bugs.

Here he is climbing out of there:

That little white speck is his tee shirt.

So, when's the garage sale?

I'm probably going to show all the fishing things to our fishermen (if the river ever goes down enough for us to have fishermen again) and see if there is anything they want out of it.

wow! How fun is that? Very interesting!

A treasure hunt. When the river goes down someone could wade over there but it wouldn't be such an adventure.

The variety of entertaining moments in your woods is a source of constant inspiration to me.

I thought this one was particularly good. He surprised the heck out me when he did this.

How can Gary hike in flip flops?
comment by elderjane on July 17, 2011 8:52 AM ()
No, he wore sneakers, but he brought back a flip flop that he thinks he can use. It broke his heart to see all those good-quality ones going to waste for lack of a mate. Those people should have thrown the second shoe into the river so it could catch up to its mate.

In the first picture what is that at the water's edge? A boat? An ark? A wooden brown bear?

Amazing what we do to our waters--sad!

It's a tree stump that broke off some time ago, then the dirt on the bank was eroded away.

See that Real Lime in the foreground? It has lime juice in it, and he's trying to convince me we can use it in alcoholic beverages because the alcohol will kill any germs.

The rubber duckies are from the annual spring fundraiser upstream from us in Estes Park. People rent a duck and they are released into the river, first duck wins something. These escaped.
