I Know You Love It

It's always fun to hear about other people's problems because you're glad their life sucks and yours doesn't.

This morning I was going to load up all the garbage bags in the back of the pickup and drive it up to the highway (about 1/4 mile) for the trash man. But I couldn't get the driver's door open even with the key. I slid across from the passenger seat and tried to start it, but the battery was dead. And I couldn't open the driver's door from the inside, either. So I slid back across and got the plug-in battery charger that has an instant boost.

Once the truck was started, the door still didn't work, so now I have an appointment at a body shop tomorrow morning to have it looked it. Probably the door lock actuator motor is broken, and for all I know it might have drained the battery.

While I was watching a little video on YouTube about how to remove a pickup door panel, a truck pulled into the yard with a couple of men in it. They were surveyors who needed access through the property, but I said "Oh look! It's some MEN!" and they took a look at the door handle to see if because of their maleness they had any insights or suggestions. I know it sounds sexist, but there are some things that some men just know instinctively. They agreed with me that it was a job for a body shop, and off they went. It was nice to get a second opinion in case there was some easy answer to which I was not privy, being from a different planet than MEN.

Which reminds me of my Mother's admonition to us kids if we saw our father go get a hammer or a screwdriver or attempt to take anything mechanical apart, "Call the rescue squad."

Ed knows lots of stuff I don't even know he knows until I hear him explaining the universe to a sweet young thing. Damn!

It doesn't come naturally to me, and takes three times longer than it does him. I don't think he likes feeling indispensable.

As a young bride, I was shocked, dismayed and more than a little disappointed to discover knowledge of electrical wiring, carpentry and auto mechanics were not instinctive in the male species.

Sometimes they play dumb so they don't have to do certain projects. I KNOW some of that went on around here at times in the past.

Every time I see mention of carrot cake, my very next thought is of you.
