Mr. Troutbend used a floor jack to hoist it up while he replaced the post with a pine tree he'd cut down in a thinning operation. There are two temporary supports, the ones with the bark on them, and the new post is in the center.

Here is the front with the old posts, I don't have a photo of the completed repair job yet. It doesn't look much different.

He found some tongue and groove floor boards from an old barn in the attic of the garage so decided to put a new deck on the front porch of the Brown Palace. The boards were something like 16 feet long.


I don't think tongue and groove was entirely appropriate for this application because there needs to be gaps for the snow and rain to escape between the boards, but he did slant it away from the house.
