For Jeri

Here's a picture of the new baby elephant just born in Oklahoma City. I posted it for Jeri.

And here's some flowers I would send to her, but I'm saving the money for a plane ticket some day. (Note to Jeri: don't go change the sheets or stock up on margarita mix, no definite plans yet.)

Last summer I went to the county Vital Statistics office and paid $37 for two copies of my birth certificate. At home with them, I put them in a safe place until I could take them to the safe deposit box at the bank, but when I next looked there, I must have moved them to a safer place. I looked and looked, but never found them. I finally decided to just go get another one today and be done with it. Now it's pinned to the wall in plain view until I can make a trip to the bank. Murphy's Law says that the ones from last year will now turn up.

I'm re-writing our wills, so if you want me to leave something to you, it's a good time to be nice to me, not that it will probably do much good, and not that there is going to be much left worth fighting over. But I do have two 1960s Olivetti manual typewriters that are up for grabs.

What a cutie! What marvelous creatures elephants are!
P.S. Maybe you should save those typewriters for Antiques Roadshow....

I've thought about movie prop people needing them for a movie something like Glengarry Glen Ross. I keep thinking about a Hoarders type situation where I try to explain why I cant bear to part with them because of memories of my dad using them for all his daily business, and everyone watching is thinking 'they're junk! send them to the dump!' I did move them to outbuildings to make more room in the office.

Love the elephant. Years ago a house of guys in the Village in New York (one of the guys was very rich) put a baby elephant in their back yard. Then they had to knock down the fence to get him out. Aren't manual Olivetti's a collector's item? Try to sell on line.

The typewriters aren't cute enough to be collectible, they just take up room and look utilitarian.

It's been a couple of years since I've been to her house, so I'm probably due to make that trip.

Such a sweet pose there, something different from the way we usually see them. I'll keep checking back to see if there are some of her standing up.
