My Fish

They're not exactly my fish, but they do hang out in my part of the Big Thompson River.

Yes, we're still getting the occasional snow storm.

Usually, this is my view of the fish. When the river is not too high I can stand on the bridge and see them in the water.

Here are photos taken by one of the fishing guides who brings clients to fish on my property. After the pictures are taken, the fish are gently released back into the river. Wild trout can live as long as 11 years, but their average life-span is 4 to 6 years, so what we're seeing are old friends.

Wild trout are also more colorful than stocked trout. These are Brown Trout aka German Brown and Rainbow Trout.

I have rabbits. Does that count?

Yes it does. We had the same wild rabbit around here for years, just the one, but the fox ate it last year.

So glad to heard they're released. Poor fishies.

One of the reasons I don't fish is I don't want to put through even the catching and releasing, but it's fun to see the fishermen having a good time.

I see some happy fishermen. I am glad they release them.

That Asian lady is just tiny. She and her husband (the grim looking guy) have been here twice. The older guy is from Massachusetts, his son bought him a day with the guide as a gift. He's the one whose wife is an artist and I sat on the bridge with her and got a watercolor lesson.

We have a school of manatees that live in the canal right outside my window--I love these gentle, huge 'cows'.

So glad they are released.... Native wild species are so important to preserve.

This river used to be stocked up until about 17 years ago, so these aren't the native, native trout, but at least they are wild in the sense they hatched from eggs laid here not at a hatchery.
