Hot Chocolate Good for You

There is a difference between hot chocolate and hot cocoa, but I'm willing to try this with cocoa just in case. We are having a chilly, cloudy day, so it'll be welcome.

I wish they'd do a study with hot buttered rum.

"A new study suggests a cup of hot chocolate may be good for more than someone with a sweet-tooth.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School say sufficient blood flow to the brain is key to a sharp memory in older age.

Sixty adults drank two cups of hot chocolate every day for a month as a part of the study. Participants had increased blood flow to the brain after drinking hot cocoa. These results are preliminary.

A few more studies need to be conducted before there's an official link between chocolate and better thinking skills."

Of all the things we read about what's good for us, this was welcome news.

Early in my marraige to Jay, we used to drink Swiss chocolate. The directions were hilarious and I only remember the ending which said, after telling us how to make it: "You have then a cup of this fine cocoa ready."

I haven't been consistent with this plan, but maybe will do it more during the winter.

Hot chocolate or hot cocoa. Doesn't matter to me. Bring it on.

That's the spirit. I'm going to go make a cup of whichever right now.

I was wondering what they were really studying - coffee? decaf? and using hot cocoa as one of the placebos. Unless maybe the Hot Cocoa Institute sponsored this study.

ok, what is the difference between hot chocolate and cocoa? because i thought they were the same.

Hot chocolate, or "drinking chocolate," is made from ground chocolate (which contains cocoa butter), which is mixed with hot milk to make the beverage. Hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder only (which contains no cocoa butter, and is thus very low in fat). Two cups of "hot chocolate" might put on more pounds and then our brain function would not improve because we were depressed because we were fat, hah hah. That stuff in packets is usually cocoa mixed with dry milk and either sugar or sugar substitute for the sugar free. That's what I'm going to do - buy a big box of packets and then sit here and work crosswords and drink cocoa , and when I get Alzheimer's in spite of it, I'll figure I didn't drink enough hot cocoa.

have a cup.

I get up and make hot buttered rum when I can't sleep, but cocoa would be okay, too.
