Hello from the Fox

Here is the fox yesterday. He looks like the Big Bad Wolf here. He has been losing his winter coat and his bushy tail is diminishing.

Here is what he looks like in full winter coat:

He is very pretty.

It is such a treat to have a wild animal that will stand still for pictures, a rare opportunity to study all the beauty of his fur. This fox has a prettier face than that other one that comes around.

I think you should start a zoo -- just sayin' ... I think fox fur coats and stoles have gone out of style and I'm not sorry. I'm not so upset about the minks because I read they are nasty little critters.

Mink really are nasty. We haven't seen any mink here for a couple of years. One summer one of the garages smelled skunky and it was because the mink had a nest around there somewhere.

You just need to give him a good brushing!!! That's what my mother use to do with her fox coat!

I wish I could give him a brushing because that under fur is so soft. Foxes are supposed to have an odor, but I've never noticed it with him.

My mother had one of those fox stoles with the head and feet. The mouth had a clip to hold on to the feet. My MIL had a sable one. This was from the 1930s, I believe.

We have Canada geese that stay here all year long.

All that pooping.

You probably have some interesting wildlife on your property.

wow, they do look somewhat ugly and scary when they lose they lose their fur.

Looks a lot different, doesn't it? In the next few weeks he should lose all that longer fur.

Red foxes are so pretty. I have only seen one in my life, a lot of it
spent in the country. I bet they were eradicated because of chicken
thefts.

I think it's so interesting how much dark he has on him. When/if he loses all his winter coat, I think he's mostly all red.

He looks actually scrawny in the top picture--throw him an extra biscuit!!!
comment by greatmartin on July 25, 2012 8:42 PM ()
He's always scrawny under the fur. It's a fashion lesson: fluffy furs are not slimming.

Wow! The difference is marked. Has Quackers gone to boarding school yet? Take care and tell Mr. Troutbend hello from us.
comment by jerms on July 25, 2012 8:26 PM ()
No, Quackers is still here. The roofers are going to install new flagstone steps alongside the house, and they are looking forward to having Quackers here to keep them company. (That's an excuse.) Last night I was wondering what geese like Quackers do in the cold weather. Surely by then he will be at his new home.
