Goosey Bliss

The Quack has a tub now. He doesn't like to get into it, but enjoys splashing his head in there and drinking out of it.

The mule deer was curious about the goose. Quackers wasn't terribly excited, took it in stride.

On a hot summer day, there is nothing like a dip in the river after working on the car.

Sometimes Quackers follows us there.

and sometimes he has to be carried part of the way.

At first I wondered if Quackers would want to stay in the river all the time and might even take the opportunity to be swept downstream, but he only stays in the water as long as we are in it with him, and only goes out as far as we do. Once we get out, he is right behind us, and ready to walk back to our house on his own.

Back home, time for a nap. He sleeps with one eye open.

He always had that eye open while napping. I never got tired of watching the things Quackers did, have a ton of pictures and movies.

My geese got in the water. I had a little swimming pool for them and
they stayed in it a lot. They are such charming fowls but so vulnerable.

Quackers finally learned how to get in and out of his tub. The new home has a stream running through the bird enclosure, so he could get in whenever he wants. I suppose I should go see how he's doing with it.

I just LOVE this goose! I wish you could keep him.

It was so sad to be standing in the river with him wading around and realize that fall is going to come and it will be too cold for us to wade out there, and the grass with die, and that's all he ate - it had to be fresh, not dried. That's when I knew we had to let go. It's still sad, and we miss him so very much.

Love the photos. Doing a book is a great idea. Are you sure you can't find a way to keep this remarkable goose? I think he would be unhappy if you gave him up.

I'll bet they might loan him back to us next summer.

My neck always hurts when I see birds twist them like that!
Great pictures--you are going to miss Quackers!!!

The other day he ate some corn, and I could see the lump of it working its way down inside his neck.

This would make a terrific children's book. Tales of Quackers.

Watching him, I can see why Beatrice Potter wrote about Jemima Puddle Duck.

they do not fully get in the water but the head as I was told. Those are great shots there.

That seems to be the case with him - he doesn't like to swim in deeper water, prefers wading over the rocks. Of course, the deeper water has a current that he has to swim against, so that must have something to do with it.
