Garden

My indoor plant starts are doing well, and I set some of them outdoors inside water wall cozy coats. The dirt in the raised garden is heated, so maybe the tomatoes will flourish inside there.

Our last frost date is at the end of May, so we have to be careful to not rush the season. Some of these plants can do some more indoor growing, and some of them are ready to plant outside without protection, and I can run out and cover some of them if we get a cold snap.

Fishermen with the club are starting to ask about renting the Brown Palace this summer. I hope to have it ready by the end of May.

Here's a vegetarian joke.

The leader of the vegetarian society just couldn't control himself anymore. He just needed to try some pork, just to see what it tasted like. So one summer day he told his members he
going on a vacation. He packed out of town, and headed to the nearest restaurant. After sitting down, he ordered a roasted pig, and impatiently waited for his delicacy.
After just a few minutes, he heard someone call his name, and to his great chagrin he saw one of his fellow members walking towards him. Just at that same moment, the waiter walked over, with a huge platter, holding a full roasted pig with an apple in its mouth.
“Isn't that something,” says the leader after only a moments pause, “all I do is order an apple, and look what it comes with.

We buy a week or two in advance and keep the plants in the garage if it threatens to get cold. They need time to get used to being outdoors after leaving the greenhouse anyway.

When I think about my garden, I think about those videos you made of yours - my vegetable hero.

It's supposed to be safe to plant around here on Memorial Day weekend, but some oldtimes say wait until after the first full moon in June. I usually watch the 10 day forecast and decide what's safe around the end of May based on that. There have been a few times, however, that I'd have to put sheets and tarps over the crops.

I'd never heard that about waiting for the moon - we're always chomping at the bit to get stuff out there. By the time it's 'safe' all the snapdragon bedding plants are gone from the garden centers around here.

I made an effort toward yard flowers a few years ago and got thoroughly discouraged when hurricanes destroyed everything. We have two urns flanking our driveway. They are full of weeds. I tell myself to get out there, scoop out what might be compromised soil, refill and replant. I tell myself. As for veggies, my neighbor does well and brings me stuff now and then. I'm helping Ed with his invoicing in Excel. It's a nightmare. That's enough "chores".

I wish your Excel project was going better.

I always push a little bit because it is so hot in the summer.

The last couple of days have been so nice and warm it's easy to kid ourselves that summer is here and we can set out the petunias.

They are a pretty flower, but I've never considered growing them because around here we have to dig them up in the winter and replant come spring.

Silly silly joke!
Your garden looks lovely! Enjoy!!!

This is the first full season with the raised beds, so I'm trying to plan it more carefully than last year. I was so upset after the flood last fall, I didn't want to eat my garden produce - it wasn't touched by the flood water - so I gave it to the maids at the motel where I was staying while waiting to get back into my home.
