"One year to seed, seven to weed" refers to the time we have to get grasses established to crowd out weeds.
The native grass seed in this 50 pound bag is worth at least $300, but the land trust that manages my conservation easement bought it with a grant they obtained for their members, so it didn't cost me anything.
The mix contains irradiated triticale, a fast-growing cover crop that will give the slower-growing grasses time to get established, and then it will die off because the irradiation makes it sterile.
Like any seed, there is so much promise.
