First Elk of the Season

Mr. Troutbend smelled this barnyard smell up the draw (near where the big tree was on the telephone lines) and there was an elk. Later this afternoon I saw the elk up on the hill behind the Brown Palace, and motioned to Mr. Tbend to tippy toe over, but in the meantime, there was an even better elk (more visible = better) in the side yard munching on grass and dandelions like there is no tomorrow.

He was not afraid of us and kept eating for a good long time while we took photos and even brought the cat out for a viewing.

That is our woodpile, and the white cube thing is a gasoline storage tank.

Buddy the Cat sees the elk.

Here is the elk leaving our yard.

Whoa! That is so neat!! I actually saw a deer on my way to drop off my kids to school this morning. It wouldn't be such a big deal had I not seen it across the street in a small field across from an IKEA store.

I don't think I've ever seen an elk - let alone have one in my yard. Didn't you have a moose last year too? I hope Buddy remembers why he needs to stay indoors.

No doubt Buddy frightened him away!

Great pix, Ms. T. We're lucky when we get big birds on our lawn
and had a heron tiptoeing around in our front yard a day ago.
Elsewise, I think a raccoon tipped over our garbage pail. Ed
was not happy. But nothing like large 4-footed fauna to make
your day!
