Cold Front

The way the weather service described it, this cold front is racing through here today. It was 83 degrees yesterday, and 65 degrees today, but still sunny and dry. Then we warm back up again. We don't have a chance of rain until Sunday. I'm starting to pray for it because the fire danger is going to escalate. The silver lining is the money we are saving on propane to heat the houses.

My guests for the next 3 nights showed up at 10:30 this morning. They were driving from Iowa or Ohio, and must surely have stopped in Nebraska for the night. Or maybe they drove straight through.

At any rate, I wasn't ready that early. I had planned to take a quick trip through the house to make sure there weren't any dead bugs on the window sills and no signs of mouse activity. The heat was turned down, and the bathroom and kitchen rugs weren't down.

So I get to looking and sure enough, mice had been on the counter in the kitchen, and worse yet, they'd been in the silverware drawer. So I had to bring the whole drawer contents over here and run it through the dishwasher. Then, all of a sudden I remembered that the hot water heater was still unplugged! I went racing over there and caught them before she got into the shower. A few minutes later he came over and said the shower had no water pressure, so I went over and showed them how the faucet is stiff (this is a new thing for it) and you really have to tug on it, but the pressure is fine. When I get a chance, I'm going to put some WD-40 on that faucet in the shower.

Fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong over there.

Trust all went well over your guests' three-day stay. That cold spell finally moved through Northwest Ohio, and it was very chilly. But now it's warmer again, into the 60s, and delightful. How long do your cabins stay open?

The last guests will be here for one night on the 15th. It's one of the electricians who has been working on installing the generator. He said he feels guilty because he never got around to taking his kids camping this summer. I hope the fox comes around so they will get to see him. Otherwise, the best we can do for wildlife viewing is the fish in the river.

How stressful to have guests before you are ready. It's finally getting cooler here, and most welcome. Of course, by noon it will be hot again, but at least not 98 at 9 a.m.

I wonder what kind of winter we are going to have, with this late start. Hugs to you there, I hope you are feeling better.

Randy is going to stop here so we can meet in person when he returns from his trip.

You can show him your rows of home-canned sauces, and the cats can sniff his shoes.

Most of our leaves are plain yellow, so the oranges are a nice change. I need to get out there and take some pictures in case they are better than previous years.

Now these guests have gone, and I'm getting the place ready for the ones that are coming on Tuesday from Springfield, Missouri. They are coming here to see the leaves and the elk.
