Coach Class

Here is a video about the building of Boeing 777s for British Airways:

"We're the first UK airline to take delivery of the long range Boeing 777-300ER.

The state-of-the-art aircraft, is longer, quieter and more fuel efficient than its predecessors and showcases the future face of British Airways.

It features an all-new interior including new World Traveller and new World Traveller Plus cabins and a new in-flight entertainment system.

It will feature more than 230 TV programmes, 70 films and 400 CDs, plug and play technology, as well as 60 per cent bigger high-resolution screens.

When it goes into service later this year, the 297 seat aircraft will offer a four class configuration including First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller."

No matter what they want to call it, I'm betting the comfort level in the lowest class cabin (World Traveller) is just as bad as any airplane, but I suppose the new name sounds better than 'Coach,' which reminds me of stage coaches in the old west where the passengers had to get out and walk on the steep parts of the road to save the horses.

I was sorry this one went so quickly, there were a few steps where I'd have like to slow it down.

I flew in Business class in September of 2000 from Atlanta to Heathrow in a 777. It was roomy compared to "En-croach" class and the seat was comfortable, unlike coach which always felt to me like sitting on a picket fence. Airliners are not made to be comfortable for passengers, but are surely designed to hold as many paying customers as they can cram down the gate.

I can picture the gleeful board room meeting when they discover yet a new fee they can add on.

Those people in the "cheap seats" won't be one bit more comfortable than they are on the 747.

That's for sure, probably less comfortable. The thrill of being on a new airplane would wear off in about 15 minutes.

I remember when I was a world traveller when I flew to England. It was a regular ole airplane seat! haha

Just think, on the Titanic it was called Steerage.

I think you are right. I remember that air travel used to be fun.

I can remember when people dressed up for air travel, back in the pioneering days of aviation.

I flew on planes when I was 13, 16 and 58. I've always found air travel to be boring as H. Maybe because there's no elbow room to knit. Now, train travel I find exciting.
