Candy Bar Pie

I sent this to Jeri (elderjane) last night. It is a good use for left-over Halloween candy, although I don't know why a person would feel the need to gild the lily, just eat the candy bars and make the pie with the rest of the ingredients. It would be just as good.

Wait. If you had some salted nuts, try chopping them for a nice garnish.

1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
5 (2.07 ounces each) candy bars, such as Snickers
1/2 cup sugar
4 (3-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1/3 cup sour cream
1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
3 tablespoons heavy cream
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Place pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan and bake 5 to 7 minutes or until very light golden. Remove from oven and let cool. Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F.

Meanwhile, cut candy bars in half lengthwise, then into 1/4-inch pieces. Place candy bar pieces over the bottom of partially baked crust.

In a small bowl, combine sugar and cream cheese; beat until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add sour cream and peanut butter, beating until mixture is smooth. Pour over candy bar pieces.

Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until center of pie is set. When pie is completely cooled, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until very warm. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until melted and mixture is smooth. Spread over top of the cooled pie.

Chill 2 to 3 hours before serving.

It reminds me of a recipe I had for a cake made with melted Milky Way bars, but I made it once and by the time you melt the candy, the cake isn't special at all, so I threw the recipe away.

Who cares about fattening when confronted with such a pie?

Speaking of, please send me the latest thinking on that cake, you know the one I mean. I forgot to keep track of all the ingredients.

And I just returned from having 3--count 'em--3 cavities filled! NO MORE SWEETS!! I still made a pecan pie yesterday!

Nothing like a trip to the dentist to firm our resolve.

I still have a bowl of candy from last year, little wrapped Snickers, Milkyway bars. I've been having fignewtons for dessert, 2 every night, so I will instead have one or two Halloween treats after dinner. No, I won't be making any pies. But I'll be thinking of you making them.

A person might as well take some Milano wafers, put them in a boughten graham cracker crust, soak them with Kahlua, then cover with the above ingredients except for the candy bars. I think the cookies would develop a wonderful soggy mystery texture.

Wait -- you need whipped cream for on top, and then an artistic drizzle of chocolate syrup over it. Then sit back on these pillows I've made for you; they're composed of many other pillows and cushions.

I can see it now! An artistic swirl.

Candy doesn't last long enough around me to get into a pie!!!!

When have we ever said: "I've got to find some way to use up this candy before it goes bad?"

Reading through it, I thought 'fattening, fattening... and oh, by the way ... fattening.'
