Here He Is

When I get up in the morning I always look out the bedroom window to see if the fox is waiting outside, and he finally was.

In this picture he looks like somebody's dog.

This is a good side view of his winter coat:

It's a good thing that he is independent.

What a beautiful tail he has. He really looks like a dog in the second picture. In the third picture, is he eating from a dish?

I couldn't think what to give him, so opened a can of Vienna sausages. He's licking the dish clean there. Today I gave him some green grapes, another of his favorites.

What a cutie! I love all these pics you get.

I have so many pictures, but feel like every time I see him might be the last, so start snapping away.

He is a wonderful fox but does he turn snow white in the winter to blend
with the snow? He looks well camaflouged.

No, he stays this orange color, but some of his winter fur is tipped with silver, there on his rump (which would blend some with the scenery if he was sitting down or curled up), and especially his face.

So cool! What do I have? A 'possum! Actually two--one flattened on the road, the other in my squirrel trap (waiting to be released in 10 min.).

We don't have possums here, which is fine. Will the trapped one 'play possum' at some point?

Does he run away if he sees you? And what is he eating?

In that picture he's drinking the juice from Vienna sausage - every last drop because he likes it so much.

He comes toward me when he sees me - always has from the first day he showed up here - but we don't get any closer than 4 feet, a mutual preference. What's remarkable is how he will hang around waiting for us to notice him.

He catches rodents mostly. I give him dog biscuits, which he hides in the yard for later, and he loves bread, pancakes, and pasta with sauce. A lot of the time he'll hang around until I give him something portable like a dinner roll that he can carry up the mountain. During the summer we are sure he was carrying them to his family.

One time he brought his mate to the yard, and she was extremely skittish - just took off at the hint of movement inside the house. I didn't initially realize that wasn't him out there, or I would have been more careful and gotten a better look at her.

What a beautiful, sleek animal--I LOVE that first picture!!!

What I like about it is that he looks comfortable in his warm winter coat - not miserable and shivery. I don't think I could stand that, but nothing I could do about it.

He is beautiful. He seems to have "sort of" bonded with coming to see you. I hope he stays safe through the winter. I worry about zealous hunters.

There are some people who do a lot of target practice up on the mountain where he spends a lot of time, and I worry about that a lot.
