What's in the Camera: Early August

Pretty soon it won't be early August any more, and time races by. Here are some pictures around the place.

This giant puffball is on the edge of our back yard. It is solid right now, and I think they are edible: slice and fry in butter, but I don't plan to try it.

Newly-mown lawn. We've been getting some rain every day, so it's looking as good as it can.

This is our patio. The cover is from an A&W Rootbeer stand - where they parked the cars. It's very low maintenance.

The river coalition people were talking about having a potluck, and I volunteered my place, but the whole time they have been bickering about when, I've been praying it won't work out, and we'll just have the usual regular meeting without food.

Big Mushroom up behind the house next door.

Up close - they are a big as a dinner plate. The ground squirrels nibbled off the side there. I suppose that means this kind is edible, but I don't plan to find out.

puffballs a no no for sure--that cut wood, is it for the BBQ---wood BBQs are illegal to use here--pollution law, so use BBQ kettle or lpg only.
Great looking back yard

I don't think we have a law against wood barbecues, but we use charcoal in the grill and burn that wood in the fireplace - illegal in some areas around here to burn wood, but we're okay with it here.

Huge mushroom! Wow! I wouldn't eat it either, I'm sure Randy would know...

My grandmother used to cook ones that looked like that, but she lived in a different part of the state and I don't want to take any chances.

That's whatchaget when you speak up too soon. I hope it works out for you either way. No, I wouldn't eat any wild mushrooms, being incredibly uninformed about which of them are safe.

I figured they'd say it was too far to come up here - we are 20 miles from town. I hope you are doing okay there, Teal.

You don't know how the critter ended up so I wouldn't try it either, much
as I love mushrooms!

So true. The people from Illinois brought some morels that had been cooked and frozen, and they just tasted like the oil they were fried in. I don't think they store very well.
