Living in the No Flush Zone in Estes Park. I'm glad that's not one of my problems.

You might have seen this house on the Weather Channel during the height of the flood. That thing hanging down is the floor. They might not be able to rebuild it due to being in the flood zone.

Now I'm wondering if you have to deal with permanent changes in the flow of the water on your property that will affect your layout of cabins, notably the red cabin. If it is structurally okay, can you leave it in the same place?

Fortunately, the major river that flows all the time is back in its channel, as is the little side stream. The side stream did cut a gap in the bank that we will have to fix in case it gets high again, and if possible, we need to gouge out a deeper channel for it, because it got filled with almost 8 feet of sand and rock. Other people are not so fortunate: they really do have the big river running through their house or across their yard, and so far, nobody in charge of things has said there is anything wrong with that.

With each of your posts we can see anew just how devastating this is. The news shows have moved on to something else now. Keep calm and carry on, as they say.

Yes, the slowness of recovery is too slow for the news media to take much interest. I sure do appreciate the local stations airing almost continuous updates during the time I was trapped at the house. I can't imagine being totally cut off from the world for all those days and all alone.

Oh Laura, I am so sorry you are having to deal with all this. When we see it on the news, we automatically think, "Oh that's terrible!". When it happens to someone we know, it's "Oh s**t, that is so frightening". Hope all of you are safe and well. I can't even imagine how you are dealing with this.

I know what you mean. We're always hearing about flooding along the Mississippi River, or hurricanes in the Gulf, but never know how bad it was, or hear much about the long slog back to normality. It has only been three weeks, and feels like 3 months.

With the Federal shutdown all Federal funds to assist CO and its residents have been halted. And the Air Force/Navy football game might be postponed or cancelled because the money isn't available to fly Air Force's team to Annapolis.

No, the disaster funds and federal employees working on them have not been halted because it's considered part of Homeland Security to get our roads repaired and people back in their homes. Why, just today I received a phone call from the SBA about a loan.

Oh goodness.

I put in the dog zip line rescue picture for you. They had some kind of harness for the dogs so it wasn't just the owner hanging onto them. Cats were sent across in kennels because cats don't always know when to shut up and enjoy the ride. Eloise is having a good time in Las Vegas right now.

You have coped better than anyone I can imagine with this disaster. The
poor red cabin but I am so glad Jazz Mama made it through ok.

I just love the look on that little girl's face. This is a private porta potty that the family rented for their home. A lot of people have to go to one of the public ones at the end of the road.

If I set it up as a balance sheet, there'd be a lot more good than bad.

So much damage--and to think the gays brought it on according to some preacher nut!!
How long do you think it will take to get your place in working order again? Can you deduct for lost business? You know like the big companies do!
I knwo it isn't funny but I like that guy holding a newspaper to get into the portapotty--I hope it isn't to read it!!!!

I'd forgotten about the gays causing it. The electric utility poles were being reset today. It's been out for 2 1/2 weeks and feels like 2 1/2 months. I hate to go back before phone and Internet are restored, so hope they are not far behind the electric. Yes, I can deduct for business losses - they said file an amended return for 2012 so I can get the refund faster.
