Do you remember those pictures showing an American family standing next to all the contents of their house, beside a picture of a family from Africa with all their belongings out in front of their mud hut to contrast how many material possessions we consider the minimum to live? I thought of that when I was moving everything out of my red cabin.
And then I thought about those Hoarders TV shows and the instinct to try to salvage things. This was when I was removing a light bulb from a trashed lamp, and that harp thing that supports the lampshade.
For the most part, I'm not sorry about the items that are ruined, but there were a couple of things, such as a lovely oak lingerie dresser, that it's a shame to see go. I always knew that place is in a flood zone, so never put anything very important in that house. Also, we have to pay a business tax on personal property used to generate income, meaning furniture, so I didn't load the place up.
I did save a few things that didn't get wet or were just starting to mold where they touched the wet carpet, just sprayed them with bleach water and hoped for the best. They are stored inside that cabin, but the doors are so warped they won't lock, plus it's wide open to air out. If looters were to come, it'd be easy to take stuff, but at this point, they're welcome to it because it'll save me worrying about it.
We are expecting a change in the weather on Friday - snow, perhaps.

I am not getting good reports about my cat's behavior - she won't let the Las Vegas cat in the house so poor Chitty has lost his inside home.
