Bad News - Highway Closure

Here's an update to my earlier post Tracking Him. Checking the road cameras, I came to this one at Walcott Junction, Wyoming:

image

Oh, oh. Trouble.

Look at how the traffic is backed up as far as the eye can see to the right of the picture.

The eastbound portion of I-80 through Wyoming is closed due to a crash. All traffic is being detoured to Hwy 30 all the way to Laramie. Imagine a two-lane back road with snow on it, and all those semi trucks. It starts out dry, then he will come into an area of wet roads with blowing snow (Wyoming blows), and then wet roads.

Mr. YouKnow is not going to be a happy camper.

It was so much fun pretending I was going to see his car on the road cam.

And it looks like a moonscape.

Home on the range, where the skies are not cloudy all day and the deer and the antelope play. I-80 is 8 hours of that sort of scenery with the wind constantly blowing about 50 miles an hour: mind numbingly boring. And if there is any fog or snow to blow around, it'll be there.

Holy crapoli that is TERRIBLE! Puts our daily traffic into a new light.

He was in the part that didn't get detoured an extra 2 hours off route, but with all those trucks, it took a long time for everyone to get rolling, added at least an hour to his drive. He is such a sweet-natured guy, he was philosophical about it and acted glad to be here.

The pics remind me of a trip I took through Idaho and into Utah to relieve my mom's care-giver for Christmas. Scariest driving I've ever done was through blowing powder snow. I couldn't see the road at all but I couldn't stop for fear of it piling up around me and getting snowed in. I found a truck and followed the top of his trailer, which was the only thing I could see. Whew! Never want to do that again!

That's the best thing to do - follow a truck, and pray they stay on the road.

I notice you aren't saying anything about having another night to yourself!!!!

It was odd to have him here for one night, and then he left this afternoon. Was it a dream?

Bake him something nice...

When I saw the charge for gas in Laramie, I bustled around and started the dinner. The nice baked thing was homemade oatmeal cloverleaf rolls.

The storm we had is part of what is coming to the east coast, but the one in your area is going to be a lot worse. Be careful.

Maybe Wyoming was an unfortunate choice. I hope everyone is ok and the
blowing snow isn't blinding.

I just looked, and the Interstate is open again. I am hoping that he isn't on the detour right now. He always has bad luck with weather or something like this when he drives through Wyoming.

These things happen.Maybe on the cell phones, texting, eating, drinking they never pay attention and this will always be.Welcome to America

That part of Wyoming is a cell phone dead zone, it was more likely last night's snow storm. Welcome to the universe.
