Travel Math

I found this great website TravelMath
that calculates your driving or flying distance or time, fuel cost of driving, and other interesting facts.

My favorite is the fuel cost of driving because you enter the distance, what gas mileage your car gets, price of gas, and fuel grade. The site calculates your fuel consumption and the cost of the gas for that trip.

For example, it would cost $90.58 one-way for me to drive my Toyota Camry hybrid from Las Vegas to Midwest City, Oklahoma the 1,120 miles to visit our friend elderjane. Driving time would be 16 hours and 18 minutes. It doesn't sound like much, does it? Blink, and I'm there. Not exactly.

I could wait until later this spring and start off from Colorado. Even though I'd be starting out 900 miles east of here, it'd still be 11 hours and 19 minutes driving time. It's the starting out farther north that accounts for some of it.

But for now it's just a dream.

How about the distance/expense to drive to Rossville, Indiana? Put me on your "wonderlust" list. (It would be a wonder!)

I am excited. The worst part of the trip is driving through Kansas
because there is nothing to look at and few places to stop and get a drink
or rest. I hate to bad mouth Kansas but it is an awful flat and boring
place.

I respectfully disagree! And I'm not on the Chamber of Commerce board. I think Kansas has a lot to offer--the Tallgrass Prairie preserve, quaint small towns (including the "new" Greensburg), nice small state parks on lakes, the Plains, Hutchinson's fabulous space musuem, Yoder's cafeteria (which I've yet to eat at), etc. The love the wide open spaces!

Well, don't hold your breath. The idea has just barely entered my little pea brain, and I have to work myself up to driving all that way by myself. I'm sure I can do it, armed with lots of road food snacks like Cheetos and Fritos and what not.

All those numbers are giving me a headache.

Wait until Jeri sees this, she'll get all excited that I might drive over there. I thought it was so neat to be able to do the gas cost for our various cars. My pickup truck only gets 17 miles per gallon as opposed to 40 mpg for the other car, huge difference and a real eye-opener. Not that I would choose the truck over the car just for the fun of it.
