This Time of Year

Something in the rustling of the leaves this time of year brings to mind my parents, usually my dad. It's as if they are here talking to me, usually commenting on something I'm doing, that maybe they would be doing differently.

This was their home, and it looks much the same as they left it. My mother died of ovarian cancer in 1986. My father remarried in 2001, and he and his new wife died together in a small airplane crash in 2002. They 'dated' for 3 years before they got married. He didn't let her change anything at this house, but they had a condo down in Phoenix where she had more leeway. So it's still my mother's house, and if she came back today, she'd be able to find everything where she left it.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not preserving it as a shrine, I simply don't have much imagination when it comes to home decorating, and I like the way it looks.

What a delight it would be to be there at this time of year!

Much of the time I prefer Spring to Fall, but every so often a year comes around where Fall seems better. It has nothing to do with the leaves changing color a certain way, it's just a feeling I have.

Beautiful pictures and I think many of us still hear that tape of our parents voices offering criticism. I wonder why? I'm sure your part of the country begins to be extremely beautiful this time of year.

Our growing season is so short, this is the time when some of the flowers and garden plants are their prettiest - just in time for frost. The good thing about it is that at this altitude we don't have rattlesnakes.

No humidity to speak of - nice. Sending hugs to the cats.

Sounds nice. I like old stuff, not modern furnishings.

Yes, it's very eclectic, and every item has a story, which makes it impossible to get rid of.

Many things look better if not changed!

When we die our heirs will empty the place out, and all the old wallpaper and dings in the woodwork will look shabby, but that's on them.
