Springtime in the Rockies

We go from a daytime high of 70 degrees to inches of snow the next day with an overnight low of 20. The forecast said it was going to be 11 degrees, but I don't think it got that low.

This is the reason we don't put out our annuals or plant green beans until after Memorial Day. Our growing season is very short.

The river is high with spring runoff fed by high-mountain snowmelt. We are in what is considered the foothills.

This is a black headed grosbeak - two of them paid a visit.

A couple of bull elk visited to graze on the greening grass.

And there's nearly 40 hummingbirds.

We have a lot of birds but no humming birds. The Robins are doing their thing. There is a lot of flirting going on too.

Nice animals. I've never seen a hummingbird around here, but they may be just out of my sight.
