Christmas Caesar's Palace

Here is the lobby of Caesar's Palace decorated for Christmas over the past three years. You can only do so much to dress up statues of half-naked women.

==========

In other local news, an armed gunman took around $1.5 million in gambling chips from one of the craps tables at the Bellagio early yesterday morning. He rode up on a motorcycle at 3:30 a.m. and wore his helmet the whole time so nobody saw his face.

Experts say it's going to be extremely difficult to convert the stolen chips to cash, particularly the $25,000 and even the $100 chips. There is some kind of secret tracking technology built into them, so they are like a stolen gift card that looks okay on the surface, but the computer can see that it's stolen when someone tries to use them for money.

They think it's the same guy who robbed the cash cage at the Suncoast poker room of $20,000 on December 8, so I'm sure the casinos are on the alert.

That does it, I'm buying a whole quart of cream instead of just a pint or half pint.

That makes me think of a character from Weeds who stole casino chips and said she knew someone who would give her fifty cents on the dollar. Of course, that's fiction, so what do I know?

These posts are going to have lots of pictures. I was thinking you should give yourself the gift of a faster Internet connection.

To me, Caesars is one of the classier casinos, and it has a fine tradition, something there is less of with all the implosions/rebuilding that has gone on.

I read the story and wondered how he planned to convert these to cash. Maybe he knows something we don't.

The casino has started asking to see the ID of anyone trying to cash in their chips, and monitoring websites for anyone offering to sell their chips for pennies on the dollar. In the casino surveillance video it looks like the guy just stuffed the high value chips into his pockets and ran, so he must have a lot of $25,000 and $100 chips, none of the lower values. I'm sure all of the casinos are on the alert for any unusual activity until they catch this guy.
