Intensity

Okay, I admit it. I am a "Type A" personality. Straight ahead. Always moving forward. Don't back up. Never Give an inch.

It has caused me problems in relationships recently. When Amy and I were together. I wouldn't fight. I wasn't assertive with her at all. In the rest of my life I was a ball-busting bastard. Kinda hard to imagine right? I mean, after all I am such a nice guy that is always so diplomatic in everything I say and do. Right?

I fired one of the guys that works for me this week. His absences have made him undependable and I finally had enough. Gone. he was okay at his job but he lacked the passion, the intensity required to be successful at what we do.

I had hit a plateau in my fitness program. I changed my diet. Much more healthy foods. Very small meals, almost snacks, every three hours. Gotta keep the intensity up on my metabolism.

My workouts. I had been looking at the length of workout and calorie burn. Now my workouts are much more intense. Hard climbing at almost maximium elevation on the treadmill. Heavy weights, hit hard at fast on the large muscle groups. Tear the muscle. Build new muscle. I have gained a couple of pounds but lost inches. It is new muscle. Did you know every pound of muscle you add causes your body to burn 50 extra calories per day? Add 10 pounds of muscle and that is the same as reducing your diet by 500 calories a day. That is an extra pound of weight loss a week.

I have also been tanning. I try to lay out around noon when the sun is at it's most intense. I also make trips to the tanning salon and the beds that work the best are the highest intensity beds.

Do you see a pattern here? It is all about intensity. Life is about passion and how intensely you use that passion. I have seen so many people that just try and get more by doing the same things over and over. That is insanity. If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten.

I am tired of the smoke and mirrors. I am tired of sound bites and spin. What we need as people is a more intense passionate life. I have talked much about change and how to affect that change in your life. The key, friends and neighbors, is intensity. Do not live a life where you are just going through the motions. that is not a life, that is an existence.

Yes, there are many challenges today. Everything is costing more. Politics. War. Strife. Famine. Too many people are concerned with other peoples faults and fail to examine the plank in their own eye. I know my faults. I am far from perfect. I am actually that nice of a person. I take care of my family and my friends. I am loyal to a fault. However, I am not that tolerant of whiners and complainers, storytellers and game players.

If you want a better life, make it happen. If you want more, go out and get it. Whatever it is. Money. Sex. Love. It is out there.

Go get it.

Just do it.

Quit bitching.

Peace

Well the only things in my life I am intense about it....exploring more of the world & Hawai'i, spending time with my husband, and being happy.

It is funny how this advice is something I have always been able to do when it comes to my career and personal success. The whole school committee thing and my willingness to run is tied to it. There are areas that I need to apply it as well. Thanks for the reinforcement after our conversation.
