Ed and I traveled to a house on the Calusahatchee to have lunch with an associate of his in the Omnbudsman program. She has had a promotion and we don’t see so much of her as we used to as she now travels statewide.

She fed us corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, and cocoanut pie. Oh, my, oh, my. I gained over a pound. But it was all delicious. She packed a goodie bag for us to take as she was going out of town the next day. Today I took the pie to my sister who once was weight challenged and now cannot gain weight – she can eat cocoanut pie with no problem. Better her than me. And Ed allowed himself a piece but shouldn’t repeat as he is borderline diabetic.

I learned from a mutual neighbor that Leeann had slit her wrists and that was the “episode” she was referring to when she called me. She must have been calling from lockdown because her boyfriend had called the police and they had Baker acted her (meaning she was held for 72 hours to be sure there was no further risk to her or anyone else).

Well, sleazy as he was (big time), you still cannot blame him for wanting to distance himself from what he would call a whack job and I would call a person in distress who needs stable, reliable people as friends. So he was the wrong person to help her through anything and it is good he is gone. Another reason he probably left is because he had worn out his welcome with all the people he was mooching from. Leeann, it seems, had been his last resort and when it developed she had a problem, he was left with no options and went “home” to North Carolina. You know home – it’s the place where if you go there, they have to take you.

I am still Leeann’s friend and I do not believe she is a threat to anyone but herself.
