Stupid Stuff

Yesterday I lost an earring. One of my favorites. This morning I decided to undo the king bed where I had taken a nap and examine every item carefully for the earring before putting all of it in the wash. No luck.

Meanwhile I had read that the easy way to flip a mattress (long over-due) was to swivel it to the halfway position flip it and swivel it once more. So I stripped the bed and got the first swivel done. This let some light in at the headboard place, so I got the flashlight and looked down there for my earring. No luck but I found a lot of cat hair.

Actually the entire area under the bed had a black layer and you couldn’t tell the rug was really beige. Think Godzilla on a bad hair day. There is stuff stored under the bed. I got all that out: – an “under bed” plastic bin I use for extra shoes. It is supposed to slide out but the rollers only allow it to slide the long way and the set-in under-frame of the bed (that I didn’t allow for when I bought this thing) keeps it from going all the way under. So I store it sideways which keeps it out of sight but it won’t roll out that way and has to be dragged. Two Sherpa canvas cat carriers – now that we have Toots, I may have to get a third. An 18 foot long box of artwork. I’ll look in it again some day. A tipple, one of Jay’s favorite string instruments that he serenaded me on our car trip to Canada in the 60s. We sang all the way to Nova Scotia. It was a fine trip. I gits gulchy thinkin’ on it. Some metal pieces that support a sheet music stand. Don’t ask me where that is. An audio tape storage unit with slide out drawers full of tapes I can no longer play since my old Aiwa Walkman died the other day and they’re not being made anymore.

Then I had to hunt for the vacuum since Ed had used it (he can be helpful) in the living room last week but hadn’t put it away but stuffed it behind the suit caddy in the bedroom. And then he had to find the attachments for me because I am not tall enough to see them in the hall closet. And then I had to lie on my back and vacuum the carpet under the bed. Then I moved my night stand that should be flush with the headboard but we didn’t shim the floor under it so there is always a little gap and it fills up with s… There are a bunch of electrical wires behind it and I got some masking tape and bound them up because bunched wires are the pits.

Mind you, all this got started with a lost earring.
Then Ed started making his breakfast but I needed help with the flip part of the mattress effort. So he dropped that and came to help. However, we have 8-foot foot ceilings (really primitive architecture) and a ceiling fan reduces the clearance to 6 1/2 feet and this was not enough room for us to flip this sucker, so we put it back same side down but swiveled it the rest of the way. Then I made the bed and it is a good thing I work out because in order to securely tuck the ends of the elasticized sheet under it I have to rest it on my knee. Getting it there is the hard part. God would have trouble lifting this mattress. After that I decided to put sheets from the closet on the bed and give the ones in the wash a rest. Sometimes I re-use the same ones because it spares me folding stuff. The sheets I used are expensive and are very soft and this softness catches more cat hair than the others so even though they had been washed, they were full of tiny tufts of black cat hair. So I got the masking tape and picked all that up.

Then I fed Brunswick a second breakfast. I was taking a break to have oatmeal and B came in and sat in his special little place, Egyptian cat style, and waited. He will sat there half an hour till I do 20 other things, trusting that I will feed him eventually and he is usually right because how can you say no to such a patient little gentleman with large, trusting eyes that follow your every move. "Now?" he seems to say.

I finally got the bedroom put back together.

I am now going to nap for the rest of the week.

Feel free to drop by and lend a hand next laundry day. Refreshments will be served.

xx, Teal
