You don’t have to do things for me, just don’t do things to thwart me …
Meanwhile, after several years of struggling with our ancient blinds in the family room, to the point where I no longer tried to open or close them but asked Ed to do it because he was tall enough to reach up and re-arrange the apparatus near the ceiling, we went to Home Depot and got new ones and they were delivered two days ago. And Ed said he would save us money by installing them himself and the boxes, at least 20 feet long were in the family room and this morning, I segued them over to another space and he said, “I would have moved them.â€
And he said I should help him and I cringed. I do not want to be part of any chore where I am holding half of something really heavy. Also he is major testy when I “get it wrong.†And I hate standing around to be handy in case I am needed. I hate being handy. Autonomy is my game. Ask me to do something, then go away.
This morning, Steve, aces handyman, is coming by and will help Ed. Ed was churlish when I called Steve without asking, but he got on the phone and was Mr. Charm and everything was okay. We both really like Steve (and he thinks I am a heavy-duty babe). If only he would stick around more – he has this obsession with Costa Rica, goes there every chance he gets, and will retire there one day and be a permanent beach bum.
The weather has warmed up and not a minute too soon. I am washing my hair and going walking. Try and stop me.
