Republican Strategy

I thought the President’s State of the Union speech was right on target. A day or so later when he met with the Republican caucus at their invitation, he addressed their criticisms and demolished them totally. MSNBC's Chris Matthews, admittedly an Obama supporter, pointed out that the Republicans were unwilling to bend no matter what Obama proposed. They appear to have only one overriding concern: get power back and to do it, destroy Obama’s presidency.

The Republican agenda is so blatantly obvious that I am astonished that they have any credibility at all, including among their supposedly concerned constituents who want something better for the country. If they want something better, they should turn off Fox and listen to some other stations where they will get a more balanced view.

I discussed the Republican mindset with Ed. I said of all the Republican congressmen, senators and representatives, surely there are some who want to solve the country’s problems and have reason and integrity? He said, the Republican power base keeps its members in line by undermining their re-election campaigns if they stray from the fold by voting conscience instead of the party agenda (destroy Obama).

In Florida, our Governor Crist is a moderate Republican. During the presidential election, he mandated that the polls stay open longer so that everybody could vote. The Republicans have historically won elections by disenfranchising sections of the electorate who might vote against them. This move on Crist’s part has not been forgotten. He is preparing to run for the Senate. Watch this race. I am sure the Republicans will try to undermine him.
