Very good piece about the crowding that will do us in. The guy who didn't want to take his advice just wanted an easy fix -- like telling him to put out an extra bird feeder. He wanted simple. There is no simple.

Very funny. Also, I wouldn't know where to get a potato sack. I'll try it with iron weights, though. A minute is no problem. A half hour, that I think might take some training. I'll try it. xx, T.

How awful. I know all about the thin sheets -- they're horrid. Take a throw or a blanket. I have gone into restaurants with throws to place over my lap. I wore a winter down jacket to the eye doctor once because the waiting room was 50 degrees. I zipped it all the way and wore the hood too.

Always happy to have upbeat news from you. Incidentally, The Good Wife is back. I have seen two episodes. Still great. Have you been watching?

sorry about no pix ... how nice that you have a break along with your activism and in such a comfy room. Let us know what is moved and shaken.

Sounds lovely. If Ed ate pork I might try it although I have never grilled anything in my life. We have an old grill, never used it. Inherited it from former owner (I think).

I felt the same way when Max got out a couple of times. No truly dangerous animals around, but there are canals an animal could fall into and not be able to climb out of. It was a horrific night for me and Max was gone 7 hours. I told him to forget about adventuring -- grounded for life, unless someone opens the pool door and doesn't make sure it is closed again. What a relief Eloise is safe. Give her a kiss from me. Whew.

My island routinely receives evacuation instructions during a bad hurricane coming our way. Preceding Charlie in 2004, we were told that storm surge would be 18 feet -- Ed says we'll go into the attic (we are 9 ft. above sea level). I said is there a way out? He says no. I said I'll take my chances swimming down Island Avenue and try to avoid the power lines. We didn't leave. We are protected by mangrove islands and barrier islands. The warnings of 18 feet were very misinformed. We had some minor flooding at the lower end of the island. Tornados were the worst because they ripped roofs off and pushed trees into houses. We lost our pool cage and a few roof tiles. Ed refused to evacuate because he wanted to be here to save the house and because evacuating with animals is involved. We got through okay. Here we are.

no real problem on our island, but people do stupid things. In Queens, NY, jaywalking was killing seniors crossing Queens blvd. on a regular basis. Cars using this main artery to get to the city were oblivious. They erected an iron fence down the middle of the median. It made shopping very tedious as, to get across to a store, you had to walk three blocks to a crosswalk. I once just climbed over the fence. Down here, bikers get routinely killed, and kids crossing main roads at 2 a.m. also wind up dead.
