A Moonlight Walk and Construction Mischief
Our power went out about 7:30 tonight and Ed checked and the street lamps were out too. He thought it was the circuit just on our end, but I was stir crazy sitting in the dark and said I would walk down to the big road (30 minutes one way) to see how big an outage there was and if anything was going on. So I did.
There was a moon just sort of being full and the night was crisp but not freezing. I took my cell phone and a flashlight and started out. I didn’t see anyone for at least 15 minutes. It was a beautiful walk and I had a lot of energy, sort of like my younger self. Nothing hurt and my legs were loose, my step fluid. Great guns, I thought, I’m almost young.
Well the lights were out on the whole island, but I saw the Lee County Electric trucks tooling up the road and knew we’d have lights soon.
Earlier we had a monkey wrench thrown into in the progress of our pool deck. A County inspector came by and said he had been given information that our construction company did not have a license to lay pavers. All work stopped, the crew gathered in the driveway, calls were made, and it was determined they could not work on the pavers today and the boss would go down to the County building (or wherever) and straighten things out on Monday and they could continue on Tuesday. But the crew, who are really aces, had a lot to do within their license so they switched gears and drilled new holes in order to re-set the shutters, and reinstalled them and tested them (it was sure a job I’m happy we didn’t have to do). Ordinarily they would do this stuff last, but the pavers are almost completely laid so they just switched gears and continued with the non-paving part of the job.
Meanwhile Ed was livid and determined to find out what #$%$# would make such a call. He did learn it was a contractor and suspects the fellow who built our neighbor’s pool. Gary, the neighbor, told us the hot tub is draining into the pool part and he won’t pay the fellow. Gary is very upset since the pool now has to be reconstructed at a high cost. We think the guy is angry and trying to cause mischief. I feel sorry for whoever did this because Ed is not inclined to suffer these things lightly. He will get a name on Monday. Ed, through his ombudsman work with the state, has access to the attorney general’s office. He will try to have the guy investigated. Our crew looked at that pool and found several obvious (to them) problems.
Oh, isn’t this exciting? Not.
xx, Teal
