Some time ago I blogged about my friend, John, who used to walk his dog, a little shih tzu named Tyler. John's rent went way up and he loaded up his truck and traveled around staying with this or that friend. Finally he wound up on the Merritt Island causeway in another rental on the east coast. Meanwhile, he had a stint in the hospital while Tyler stayed with a friend.

Tyler was despondent while John was in the hospital, so the friend would take him to John’s truck and let him sit in the cab a while, and he’d feel better about John coming back.

I have stayed in touch with John and today he E mailed me that Tyler has terminal cancer and the vet said he will go in about two weeks.

Tyler is a very smart dog, has an awesome, feisty attitude, and adores John, and I can’t imagine how John will withstand this terrible loss. I am also personally devastated, since I am crazy about that dog and had hoped to see him again. I told John he should stay with us if he was traveling back this way and he doesn’t go anywhere without Tyler. I said the cats could just suck it up.

Anyway, I am truly sad tonight.
