Goodbye to Tyler, and Back Woes

I heard from my friend, John, this morning that his little dog, Tyler, a shih tzu, succumbed to his cancer earlier this week. I am so very sad for him and I had hoped to one day again see Tyler – he was truly unique. John and Tyler moved to the East Coast of Florida near Merritt Island last year, traveling in John’s truck like gypsies, with his remnants of furniture stuffed in the back. I missed his going and blogged about trying to find him. He had been priced out of his rental and was just traveling in his truck, homeless and looking, and hooking up with friends when he could.

John asked me to check in with a friend at The Pampered Pup, a dog-grooming place. He is so lonely that he is thinking of adopting again and thought they might know of someone who wants to give up a dog. He can’t afford a purebred on his own.

So I stopped in and spoke with them this morning and right away they know of a 2-year old female Navanese mix whose owner can’t handle three dogs, and John could probably have her. He’d have to travel to this area, of course, and could stay with us. I think he is willing to do that because this is the only area he knows where he could adopt without putting up a great deal of money. Navanese, I learned, look a lot like shih tzus. I personally think it is a good idea to not go for exactly a dog like your lost pet. I E mailed him. It’s up to him.

Meanwhile, I have been in a lot of pain from a muscle pull or pinched nerve or God-hates-me-pain in my back. I can only sit a short time. I can stand or lie down and sometimes that’s no good either. I have an appointment with a massage therapist tomorrow morning and I hope she is a miracle worker. My sis, who has constant pain from shingles aftermath said I should see a doctor. Well, if I did that, he’d send me for MRIs and whatnot. That's what he did about my neck and, lo, after three different tests, it was all along neuro-muscular and nothing that needed all this mishagas. All this CYA testing is needless. I did get physical therapy but the doctor-sponsored therapist was, in my estimation, not good enough and did not do deep massage, and most of the therapy was on sports equipment so I was doing the work.

Is it wrong of me to want to lie down and fan? Tomorrow's therapist does not work with doctors but comes highly recommended. I am hoping she can really help me. I am sorry she won’t be covered by insurance, but what the hell.

Anyway, it's not acting like shingles -- no rash and I do get some relief from my own massage efforts. It's a worry because of my sis's long-standing suffering.

I’ll have to post without further ado because I can’t sit
any more.

xx, Teal
