Friends and More ...

Terry from New York dropped in tonight. He’s taken a new job organizing fine art exhibitions around the country and also overseas, and will be flying in and out of this area periodically. We ordered Chinese food. He couldn’t spend the night which was okay because our spare bathroom needs a big repair.

His father-in-law died yesterday and Lila, his wife, about whom I have written, flew to Minnesota to be with her family. They are both now going to be traveling constantly and Lila will continue with her jaunts to the Middle and Far East and to Europe – Paris, Milan, etc. for the fashion shows -- inventing clothing lines for Chico’s and getting them manufactured.

Terry who has just started on somewhat of the same traveling merry-go-round said he doesn’t know how Lila does it. Anyway, they keep making dates to meet here or there and I am just exhausted listening to their routines.

I napped after Terry left and so it is that I am up at 2 a.m. feeling very sad and trying to understand why. It is mid-May – is it an anniversary? If you live long enough every month has a sad occurrence and sometimes your body knows before you do.

I was also contemplating the loss of friends on MyBloggers and hoping it wouldn’t come to a breakdown of this little microcosm of connection. And if it did, would we manage to stay in touch? I would hope so.

Ed and I went to Macy’s today and spent money. Ed said I hounded him to pieces because our family room sofa and love seat are shabby and he “gave in”. I didn’t actually do that so much as show him ads of what I liked. Is that hounding? Huh? Yet he really likes what we got. Champagne colored leather sofa and love seat. I had wanted white but was talked out of it because this was a good deal and the style we liked would have had to be special-ordered in white and that would have taken months.

So I reminded him how much money I save by doing all the housework. If he didn’t have me, he’d have a cleaning lady in once a week. I cut and color my hair myself. I’d do his if he'd let me, and a better job of it too judging by the last cut he got that made him look like Alfalfa from the Our Gang movies. And I refuse to spend $20 a week to get my nails done. $50 if you want the toes too. I do it all myself. Yeah, yeah, he says. You gotta love a guy who is so articulate.

xx, Teal.
