I've always liked the South Beach diet. I feel better with less carbs and more protein, but this one is really healthy. And the fact that it's gluten free is really nice. My husband is gluten intolerant and I've cut back on gluten since he found out he was. He gets the gluten headaches every time he takes just a little, which is sort of rough on an Italian since pasta is a staple. However, we've learned that brown rice also works really well. My other problem is no red meat. I don't really eat it. If I even eat meat, it's chicken and turkey and some fish thrown in for good measure. One of th ereasons I really like this diet is that fact that I think I can live with it. It's not that much of a change of lifestyle.
Breakfast was a scrambled egg (with Pam), on a corn tortilla with 2 strips of turkey bacon a helping of tomatoes and a glass of low sodium V8. It was really good. There are other alternatives to this, but it tasted wonderful and I like having a solid protein in the morning to help me get through my day. The thing about this is that you get a lot of fruit, veges, dairy and meat and it's balanced. Morning snack is fruit and cheese. Who can't live with that!
So, the only thing I'm really getting rid of is bread, the rest i was pretty much doing, but my portions will be smaller. More smaller meals, multiple times a day. I'll let you know if it works.
I found out that gluten can cause joint pain. I have this, so if I can do anything to help with that, I'm willing at this point. Also, I've lived with out refined sugar for a long time. I also gave up soda about a month ago, so I should be ready for this.
Anyway, it's warm here today -- in the 70's. I'm about to go for a walk and then have a spa day-- (a gift from my son). It's going to be a nice day. Spring break is winding down and I did bring home papers to grade. It's okay. It comes with being a teacher.
Have an awesome Thursday.
keep us hungry.
