I teach at a performing arts magnet high school. THere are many gay students and it's pretty widely accepted. I also know that there are several gay teachers at school who are lovved and respected. I think I live in a bubble. I've taught at other schools which are not so open. I just happened to get into a school where there is very little discrimination. Heck we're a melting pot of everyone...every ethnicity every persuasion. You just gotta love your students for being who they are! Students! Wish everyone had this kind of atmosphere.
I had a wonderful author friend in NYC who was so witty and I remember him saying, (and this is his quote and he definitely was gay and open about it) "Yes they need to come out of of the closet, but they need to clean it before they do!' I never forgot that. Wonderful author, I was his copy editor. !

I started there about then ntoo. You and I didn't start friends, but ended up that way. Now we've been friends for quite a long time. You are such a special person, martin, that fact that you don't let them get to you is amazing. I got in one struggle with one person and ended up in a battle, but I've learned since then. Now I just avoid it at all costs. Easier to laugh than to argue, don't you agree? Anyway, I'm so glad you and I became friends and here's to another 6 years as well!
