Ted Kennedy

In the news: "Ted Kennedy has a brain tumor. Doctors were able to remove part of the lump on June 2.  Sources say he is offering a chunk of his $50 million fortune for a treatment that can beat the savage disease. He is also willing to try anything that might restore his health including asking for a special audience with the pope at the Vatican.
He has visited cancer specialist in China, Russia and Mexico searching for any new promising experimental treatment. He is even trying prayer and faith healers according to friends. He is also said to be talking to his mother's spirit."
Ted Kennedy is a white haired, rotund senator now--but if you're of my generation, you remember Ted Kennedy in July of 1969 as a good looking married man who drove into Chappaquiddick pond in the middle of the night and fled, leaving his passenger, a young woman named Mary Jo Kopechne to drown. Ted made it out of the car and made it back to his hotel without saying anything.
Powerful family lawyers shushed it all up. He wasn't charged with negligent homocide, leaving the scene of an accident, or any culpability. Ted wearing a neck brace, and his stunned looking blond wife attended the funeral. They divorced and Ted became known as a rake, a roue, a cad. His nephew was accused of raping a woman at Ted's Florida home while Ted was in residence.
Ted, I'm  wondering if you ever talk to Mary Jo Kopechne's spirit, if you ever dream about leaving a girl to drown, ever ask for her forgiveness. As mortality closes in on you, if you ever think of her and her life cut short by your cowardly actions.

Susil, a death occurred because of him. I am sure he has agonized over it. I do not think he should be denied compassion after so many years of public service. To not forgive him is your right. To acknowledge his service is not to condone what he has done. Sometimes truly evil doers are "turned" in prison. If we never acknowledge their remorse, we are contributing to the problem.

Ted Kennedy's story has always bothered me. Truth is elusive. Of course, the old "belief" is: if justice isn't served on earth, it will be after life. That's bull hockey. I'm with you and Teal, as unfortunate as it is.

I firmly believe that what goes around, comes around. The Kennedy men just couldn't keep it in their pants. I don't believe God is going to get us for our actions because he must surely be sleeping. However I have seen retribution in this life come in many forms, not always visible.

His behavior was indeed reprehensable in that Chappaquidick episode, the result of a privileged upbringing and the fear that exposure would ruin his chances of running for president. In this, he was right. However, he became an effective senator, even as McCain did after allowing his father and grandfather to bail him out many youthful mishaps including crashing 7 navy planes but never being demoted.

I read every word of his nephew's alleged rape down in Florida and the newspapers were full of that story for weeks. It was bullshit from the gitgo. The girl wanted to "get" the Kennedys and maybe even get paid off. Her story was full of holes. Not everything you hear about them, positive or negative, is gospel.

Anyway, it's all history. And as for God's retribution for bad behavior, that's a bit of a childhood fantasy isn't it? So many evil people live long, successful lives and die at 90 in bed.

Whether he realizes it or not, he is going through the payback
now. But I also believe that Jesus will judge him at the proper time.

I'd like to believe in the saying"what goes around comes around". To that end I believe Ted Kennedy will have to answer to God for his sins in the near future.
