Such a beautiful day here in Deep South Mississippi! Pale blue sky, wisps of cirrus clouds far above. The magnolia trees are blooming and the mimosa are just starting too.
Fields of green cotton plants near Richton and Leakesville, soaking up the sun and heat. I just finished a watercolor of cotton bolls on the stem.
Got up early to run errands before the temp gets up to 89 degrees this afternoon. Turned off the car radio--sick of hearing about the Zimmerman case. An NPR interviewer was talking about the "child" Zimmerman had murdered.
I take umbrage with that. The child was 17 years old. I've yet to hear anyone say what this teenager was doing in a gated community--was he visiting someone? What business did he have on the grounds of this gated complex? Hey, maybe he WAS up to no good and casing the joint.
Also sick of hearing about Romney and politics period. Off with the radio. Around here it's country or gospel music, no to those to.
I had almost forgotten I had a CD of Porgy And Bess already racked in, and listened to that instead. Back in dinosaur days I had an 8 track of Porgy and Bess with William Warfield singing Porgy and Leontyne Price singing Bess. Oh that was beautiful.
When she sang "Summertime" the hair would raise on the back of your neck...."Summertime, and the livin is easy, fish are jumpin and the cotton is high... Oh your Daddy's rich, and your Mama's good lookin..so hush little baby, don't you cry...One of these mornins you're gonna rise up singin.. then you'll spread your wings... and take the sky.. Till that mornin, ain't nothin can harm you...so hush little baby...don't you cry..."
I hear there's a revival of Porgy and Bess on Broadway--wish I could be there.
I stopped by a discount store that buys up Sam's and Walmart's goods where the expiration dates are about to come due. Got a lot of yogurts, Dannon, Greek, Yoplait, stir fry veggies, orange juice (with pulp) buttermilk, etc.
Good prices there, cheap!
Saw an amusing sign in front of a church on Edwards Street. The sign read: NOW OPEN ON SUNDAYS.
Then alongside Highway 98, a new restaurant has a banner across the front: LIVE BOILED CRAWFISH.
That's an oxymoron, because you're either alive or boiled!
Anyway, enjoyed getting out and hope you day was a good one.
