I got up at 4am Friday morning to watch William and Kate get married. I wouldn't have gotten up so early had I known BBC America, TLC and other channels would be running the entire nuptials over and over, but oh well.
I think Kate, or more precisely Catherine Elizabeth, will make a dandy wife for William. She seems down to earth and determined at the same time. Her wedding gown was absolutely gorgeous-- some pundits said they expected her to be outre and avant garde--but she knew she couldn't wear a daring decollete wedding dress and be married in the same church where for instance, Sir Issac Newton is buried. But I had a moment of superstitious qualm as Kate got out of the car with her veil covering her face; she looked ghostly, like The Lady Of The Lake, or Ophelia.
But no, the girl chose the perfect gown. Sweetheart bodice, with lace overlay and long sleeves of lace, and a floaty skirt. Her silk veil was held in place with a modest tiara, and coming down the aisle escorted by her father, she looked exquisite.
I notice her bridegroom is rapidly balding but he's still a sweetie pie. He put a ring on her finger, but oddly, she didn't put one on his. Prince Harry served as best man.
Kate's entire family was involved. Her brother read a part of the wedding service in a cultured British accent and didn't flub a word. Nice job. Kate's sister Pippa, another tall lovely girl, wore a long form fitting white dress and served as her sister's bridesmaid. She followed behind, keeping the nine foot long train in order, and assisting with the little girls and boys who were the attendants, following behind, all dressed to the nines.
There were trees in Wesminster Abbey lining the aisle, trees in pots instead of flowers. Afterward, the trees will be planted on royal grounds.
All in all, it was lovely, everything went right. The couple will be henceforward be known by the titles the Queen bestowed on them, the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge.
I wish for them a long and happy life together.
