Golden Leaves

On the side of my yard there is a hickory tree loaded from top to bottom with golden leaves. The weather has to be just right for this magnificence to occur. The combination of warmish days, and cold nights has been just right this year.
Looking out my office window, I saw this column of gold, a gift, a treasure. A breeze ruffles the leaves and the tree shimmers in the sunlight.

I drove up as close as I could to a small hickory tree growing near the big one and picked some of the branches of golden leaves. There was a pyracantha bush growing by it. It has smallish glossy leaves and bright red berries, and I got a branch of that too. Nature had arranged a mat of pine straw underneath them that looked as if it had been arranged by hand. So perfect. I broke off a branch of pine, and brought them all in and arranged them in a clear cobalt blue vase.

A king couldn't have had a more beautiful sight. The gold and red, and fresh pine scent. Wonderful. Aaaaah

Sounds wonderful Sue. I need to pick the last of the roses.

Before I read Laura's comment, I was thinking, "Thank you, Sue, for that beautiful word picture!" It truly is.

Finally coming out of my fog, Su, not a minute too soon. Maybe the nose spray the allergist gave me is actually doing some good.

Hi teal; you are never foggy!
Is there something new in the air this year? Allergies to pollen--or something--is rampant over here. Seems like all of us in So. Miss. is sniffling and sneezing

I used to bring bougainvillea blossoms in and put them in crystal dishes. I am not doing that lately. My efforts are tabled for the time being.

Hi teal; hope you are well, and I can't imagine anything as exotic as bougainvillea!

You paint a good picture with words, Sue. I hope all is going well with you.

Things are as well as can be expected--I just let small things annoy me which doesn't get you anywhere in life.

That's something I like to do. Up until the last few years I always carried a shovel and some buckets in my pick-up and when I saw a nice small plant along the road I would stop, dig it up, and take it home and set it out. I got a lot of pleasure from it. I get more pleasure from that than buying them

I have three magnolia trees (small) in my yard that I got along the road. They are growing good. I got them in 2001 and they are about 8 ft. tall

Hi larry, you're not able to dig up found plants anymore? Woe is me--I'd ask you to help me if you were able. I've always wanted a magnolia tree in the yard. I'm like you--love to roam and look for plants.
