An Extraordinary Person

Saturday, December 27, 2009

On the way to the hospital to see Aunt Marcheline,Ellie stopped to bring me a dozen oranges. One of their friends had picked a bushel of them from their backyard in south Louisiana. These Louisiana Sweet oranges have no seeds, and are sweet as sugar. But they wouldn't win any beauty contests. The skins are blotchy and ugly looking, belying their supreme taste.

Besides making two 80 mile round trips a day to see her mother in the hospital, Ellie has been cooking for 10 deer hunters. Today she left a pot of beans cooking and they'll have beans and rice for supper--no meat for them until they kill a deer! (Although the politically correct term nowadays is "harvest" a deer.)

In the middle of this she has to start working on the billing for our water association. Some people are extraordinary, and Ellie is one of them. I gave her some gas money, a small thing to help a little when she's busy taking care of so many people. susil

I hate that harvest a deer thing but then I am so antihunting unless you are hungry and have no means to buy food. This is not a popular stance in my part of the country. You just don't kill Bambi for the fun of it.

Ellie is indeed extraordinary! Hmm, so you "harvest" a deer? Interesting.

I would never harvest a deer, t'would weigh on me conscience. Ellie sounds like a really caring daughter. So ... rice and beans it is.

Cooking for 10 deer hunters??? That is a full time job in itself. JR is off in Texas "harvesting" a deer. Actually his grandson is the one doing the hunting. This is his first deer hunt. It is rather quiet here now that I am alone again. Once-in-awhile... the dog sighs. Yes, there are some extraordinary people such as Ellie. Personally, I don't have that kind of energy. Happy New Year to you Susil.
