On the way to the hospital to see Aunt Marcheline,Ellie stopped to bring me a dozen oranges. One of their friends had picked a bushel of them from their backyard in south Louisiana. These Louisiana Sweet oranges have no seeds, and are sweet as sugar. But they wouldn't win any beauty contests. The skins are blotchy and ugly looking, belying their supreme taste.
Besides making two 80 mile round trips a day to see her mother in the hospital, Ellie has been cooking for 10 deer hunters. Today she left a pot of beans cooking and they'll have beans and rice for supper--no meat for them until they kill a deer! (Although the politically correct term nowadays is "harvest" a deer.)
In the middle of this she has to start working on the billing for our water association. Some people are extraordinary, and Ellie is one of them. I gave her some gas money, a small thing to help a little when she's busy taking care of so many people. susil
