October 12, 2008. Article in the Hattiesburg American with the headline "Washington Weighs Lethal Meds For The Terminally Ill." Washington state is going to allow voters to decide whether to allow doctors to prescribe lethal medication to terminally ill patients. The idea is to let those who are suffering have control over their final days. It's about dignity and end of life decisions.
But when I first saw the headline I thought perhaps Bush and the powers that be--maybe the Medicare and Medicaid honchos in Washington--our capitol--had decided to dose up us unwanted and useless old folks to cut down on costs.Â
Call me prophet-- I see a day when these health care providers will place a monetary value on your life and mine. When you go over the cap they decide is the value of your life--say $20,00, $100,000 whatever--you will receive no further medical care and have to choose provided euthanasia drugs or being completely on your own as far as medical care is concerned.
It's a day that is coming soon. Medicare and Medicaid is bogged down in debt and a deluge of baby boomers will strain the health care system. Your fellow Americans will see this as a perfectly reasonable solution. The wealthy will live, the poor will die. There won't be any need for a Dr. Kevorkian then. All will be provided by your government.
