This Week in the Life Of ...

It's been a busy week here in Lake Woebegone... Oh wait--
that's somebody else's line. At least I have a little time to catch up with blogging news--both mine and yours. Hope this doesn't sound like a Christmas letter.

First, my father: With his daughters gone for 12 days (due back in 5), I've been assigned to keep an eye out for him. We drove down to my daughter's house (45' away) for a nice afternoon getaway. We had a good talk in the car about all sorts of things. He sold his car, by the way, so he's immobile. Anyway, I've seen him twice this past week, and he's enjoying his independence from my sisters. No nagging!
I did some grociery shopping for him and cleaned his gutters.

For me, besides the usual morning golf, I've kept at the household chores, mopping floors, doing laundry, etc. No septic system installed yet, but no backups on the washing machine water. (Where are those guys?)

I haven't mowed the grass yet for two reasons: it's been 3 weeks since we've had any rain, and, once you start, you have to keep mowing. It's supposed to rain this weekend.
But I have planted about half my garden. I'm waiting because the septic fingers are to go under part of it. Grrrr.
So I've rototilled, planted and transplanted, hoed, and watered most of the garden. Harvesting asparagus is all.

Cut two loads of firewood while it was dry enough to get into the woods. Been splitting and stacking in my "spare" time. Went to the Amish greenhouse store for flowers, potted veggies (Br.spr/peppers), and onion sets, and planted all but the flowers (for today).

Made a cake, pickled beets--the usual food prep. But I haven't been so busy that I don't make time to read (about 3 hours every evening). Read a book about Amish/Mennonite history. Guess I never realized the battles they've fought against the government in arm service conscription, social security payments/benefits, taxes, health care, education requirements, etc., etc.! They simply want to be left alone.
I'm now reading "1491" (America before Columbus). Very interesting.

That's my week in review--summarized to prevent boredom. How did I ever find time to teach and raise a family? Enjoy your weekend.
