A Visit to the Museum

If I had my druthers, I'd rather be outdoors hiking (certainly golfing), than walking through a museum.

But, I had two free tickets (parking $7) to the Indiana State Museum, so, on what we thought was going to be a rainy yesterday, sister Barb and I spent the day wandering through exhibit after exhibit in our state capital's new show-piece.

I must admit, it was impressive--very impressive. I mean, WOW! They spared no expense. The facilities were great, the exhibits marvelous. No stone was left unturned as far as subjects were concerned. History, science, the arts...whew!

The centerpiece was the Lincoln Room. It contained photos and memorabilia of ol' Abe. While not one of my favorite presidents, I was still impressed. Hoosiers like to claim Lincoln was a "native son", although he spent only a few childhood years in Indiana. We call them the "formative years"!

One couldn't possibly read everything the museum held (wrote), but we did peruse every exhibit in our nearly four hours there. I doubt if I ever return, unless I take a grandchild. Kids can't appreciate what's in a place like this. I know, because I used to take 7th graders to the old State Museum. And the elementary children that were there yesterday-- in boisterous hords, I might add--ran around the place like honey bees. Use your imagination. I was able to tune them out and was thankful I wasn't in charge of their behavior anymore!

All in all, a good day in the museum.
