Well, faithful readers and friends, you can skip over my mybloggers name for the next two weeks or so. I'll be away from this poor excuse of a computer on a sojourn to the sunny south. You'll have to find your amusement somewhere else.
Being retired, I can't really call this trip a vacation, per se, at least not from a job . However, it will be a change of scenery and relief from this miserable winter weather. Perhaps my blood pressure will improve.
Here's my itinerary. Beginning Sunday (the 1st), I'll take two days to drive old blue (Dakota truck) down to Ft. Myers (FL). No side trips this time--just hauling a** with one motel stop.
I'm staying with my Indiana farmer friend who's spending the winter in his trailer home. I'm even taking my golf clubs. I'm hoping he won't get on my nerves (or v.v) during the 5 day stay.
Then I head up to the Tampa Bay area to spend a week on Caladesi Island, off the coast of Clearwater. What's there, you ask? Simply the number one rated beach in all of the United States! It's a paradise infrequented by tourists. (I think it costs $5 to take a ferry to the island.) What am I doing there? Well it's one of the many service trips offered by Wilderness Volunteers. About 12 of us will camp out and spend the week working on projects for the state park. We'll do invasive species removal, clean-up, boardwalk renovation, etc. It makes one feel good about help making Caladesi such a nice place to visit.
This will be my fifteenth "working vacation" over the past 8 years with W.V. and Sierra Club. There's more about WV on the web (.org). Caladesi, too. I'll be back by March 16th. You all take care while I'm gone.
