I bought and have listened twice to Susan Boyle's CD. It's the number one best selling "album" in America. Hurray!
I really like her voice. It's something special. The orchestration behind her is top notch. Beautiful arrangements.
And, for the most part, I like her selections. She covers all subjects--Broadway, pop (The End of the World), jazz (Cry Me a River), religious (including Christmas), even a little blues. They are so tastefully done, this secularist is not offended. Religious music is good music (Bach and Handel's Oratorios). (And I'm not the "elitist" as accused.)
Her songs reflect her personal life. She is telling the world who she is: a mother's little girl, sad and lonely, even depressed, but with wild dreams. She speaks to millions in a most powerful way. One can't help but be inspired.
Carry us "Up to the Mountain", Susan.
