2 Weeks to My Half Marathon
That's right, my very first Half Marathon is only 2 weeks away on Sunday, November 16th. And I'm really excited about it.
My new running buddy, Jackie, has been pushing me to run faster on my long runs and my running group has been keeping me company on my shorter runs. It's been great to have so many amazing women to train with.
Jackie and I ran 8.5 miles today and stuck to the lower roads in Griffith Park and did less hills this time. We averaged a 10:22/mile and stayed on pace for the 8 miles and took a slower pace for the last half mile to cool down. After our run we stretched and chatted. On our way out we stopped at a mini-festival for Urban Green awareness, where we got caught in quick downpour.
We grabbed some free goodies under the little white tents (some coconut milk, an enormous apple, a healthy cookie, and some seasonings). It was like a running event where you get lots of free goodies after you run. It was so fun!
I love free stuff. And I love the rain. And now, I love to run!
Making it a great day so far... but I just got off the phone with Thom.
I'm heading to Thom's this afternoon for our quiet night which might turn out to be not so quiet. One of our friends is depressed from his recent breakup and confessed to Thom that he took 5 sleeping pills. Thom talked to him for over an hour late last night but hasn't heard from him yet today. He's calling a mutual friend to go check on him in the meantime. I told Thom that we probably should go spend time with him tonight if he's that sad.
The friend lives on the other side of town which is why Thom hasn't gone over there already. Plus he's hoping it was over the counter pills which won't have long term affects on the sad friend.
Crossing fingers that he's okay though.

I guess the anniversary question will wait. Checking on his friend trumps it.
