Training Group
Last week I learned that a friend of mine, KM was going to run the Pasadena Half Marathon as well. So I contacted her about joining her running group. Last summer KM, MJ and I were dedicated to hiking Fryman Canyon, a 4 mile loop in the hills, every Sunday afternoon all summer long in 2007. KM had since been working out with a Boot Camp Trainer and lost a lot of weight. The trainer is so impressed with her success (as am I) she has her stay with the group for free and has encouraged her to take up the challenge of running.
KM and her group of 3 are just learning to run and are taking it at a slow pace. I joined them this morning for a mountain path run through the hills alternating running 5 minutes and walking 2 minutes. The pace was easy but the hills were tough.
A great training spot to make the actual marathon seem so easy. So even though the pace was easy, I still got a great workout with the group. I think I'm going to stick with them on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the early morning (before dawn). And maybe do my long weekend runs alone.
But this weekend, I'm headed to Long Beach to do the RunForrestRun 5K and cheer on my virtual running group who are doing their first Half Marathon. Thom is going to wake up at the unholy hour of FIVE A.M. to go with me to the LBC and cheer me on at the 5K. He really is a good man. And as promised we're celebrating after wards at BubbaGumpShrimp Co. and perhaps a walk around the Aquarium since I get a free pass with the event.
But before that it's Oktoberfest on Saturday night and I have to chicken dance with my good friend, Krugs who just came out of "hiding" aka long working days. And maybe, just maybe, I'll have a beer to welcome her back. *wink
It's gonna be a great weekend!
