Running in Darkness
My training for the Half Marathon on November 16th is in full swing. I did my Monday "easy" 2 miles last night. My longest training run is 7 miles.
I'm getting a little nervous about training. Mostly about being able to wake up in the morning and motivate myself to run. Since I'm doing this one on my own, no one is going to call me out if I slack on my training schedule but me. And during the long summer daylight hours that wouldn't be a problem but this morning was the first sign that "winter" is approaching. And by winter I mean darkness as LA rarely drops below 50 degrees at night.
Darkness, running in the darkness. Now that is seemingly a daunting task. And here you thought my post title was metaphorical. Nope, I really have to figure out how I'm going to train in darkness. Soon running in the park after work is not going to be an option as last night's sunset was at 7:15pm.
Ah, more things that I need to buy as part of my training: a hydration system like a bottle that snaps to a belt, an ID tag that I can put on my shoe, and now a headlamp or safety lights.
I did put my ICE numbers in my cell phone. I read that it's a good thing to list your In Case of Emergency in your cell under ICE so paramedics and the like can find who to contact on your behalf quickly. But since I don't like carrying a lot of things when I run, I need to buy one of those ID tags. Which is the plan tonight after work.
Oh, and I'm being as patient as I can be with the bike. My friend Jay is at a bicycle convention this week. So I will continue to wait for my biking adventure to start and focus on my running.
