Pasadena Marathon Canceled
Pasadena Marathon Canceled
That's what the sign said over the freeway at 5am on Sunday morning.
I was a tightly wound spring in the car, driving Thom a little crazy at how excited I was to get to the starting line. He said that the only thing that would have him as excited that early in the morning was picking up his winnings from the lotto. I tried to focus my energy and as we got on the freeway to Pasadena, there it was in glowing orange letters.
I called my friend K who I'd been training with and she had gotten word that it was canceled due to the fires and the poor air conditions. True, all of LA is covered in smoke and the air quality is really bad the past few days.
Thom turned the car around and we headed home. This time I was as quiet as a mouse as the tears streamed down my face in disappointment. How could I not be? I've been training for 9 weeks. I still have to wait to find out what Pasadena will decide to do.
I called my friend Jackie to let her know and she asked if I wanted to run a 5K with her. I decided that since I was already dressed and ready to run, I might as well run. Thom and I drove to the Grove at the Farmers Market and I signed up for the "Run For Her" 5K for Ovarian Cancer Research.
Thom is such a good sport by the way.
My 3 mile run was awesome despite the smog in the air. It was a little thick but probably less so than in Pasadena. I ran faster than my last 5K. Long Beach I ran it in 29:11 and yesterday I finished in 27:27! I was 7th in my Division of Women 35-39.
And it was just what I needed to make up for not getting to do the Half Marathon. I'm anxious to find out if they will reschedule the Pasadena Marathon. If it's the weekend before or after Thanksgiving I will be unable to run it as I will be at my parents.
There's always the Half at Surf City on Feb 1st which I signed up for and will start raising money this week...
Here's the link for anyone interested: click here
And there's a Half on Dec 7th that goes through Los Angeles called the City Of Angels Half.
So my first race medal will have to wait.
